Barry Wasserman, Ph.D., and Ruth Ann Weiss, Owners/Directors
Barry has been a Camp Director for 30 years. Prior to creating Eagle’s Landing, Barry was the Director of both Eagle River Day Camp in Monroe for 8 years and Lake-Vu Day Camp in East Brunswick for 14 years. Barry served on the Board of Advisors for Camp America, a division of the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS). He has also previously served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of the NJ Association of Private Camps, and as a Board Member of the American Camp Association.
Ruth Ann has been a Camp Director for 21 years. Prior to Eagle’s Landing, Ruth Ann was the Director of Eagle River Day Camp in Monroe for 8 years and the Head Counselor of Lake-Vu Day Camp for 4 years. Ruth Ann grew up in camp and spent many years working in non-profit facilities. She has served as an administrator at camps in both New Jersey and Delaware. Ruth Ann received her certification as a Pre-School teacher and as a Kindergarten teacher. She also supervised an after-school program working with children in grades K-8.
Brian Mallen - Assistant Director
Brian has been with the Eagle's Landing family for 15 years. He started working with us as a Junior Counselor and has made his way though the ranks, literally working in every area of camp. Brian graduated from Rutgers University with degrees in Sociology and Education. His primary focus at camp is on IT, facilties and operations. He loves going outside with the campers and staff, but his favorite job by far is tasting each of the ELDC lunch options.
Carlen Smith - Specialist Coordinator
Carlen is excited to be a part of our leadership team for another summer. You can always see Carlen smile as she walks around camp every day. She loves to watch the campers learn new skills as they participate in the variety of activies around camp. During the school year, Carlen teaches anatomy and AP Science classes at East Brunswick High School. Carlen comes to camp with her son.
Jordan Baer - Special Operations Coordinator
Jordan is the person behind the amazing Special Events Calendar you get to be a part of every summer. He is known as "Mr. Camp" at Eagle's Landing and has worked with all different ages. He is silly, caring and always on his toes. Jordan teaches math during the school year at J.P. Stevens High School.
Shari Rykus - Division Leader
Shari has been working at camp for the past 6 years. Shari works in the Carteret Public Schools District as a Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant on the Child Study Team (CST). She worked for years at the Middle School level, and now is on the CST at the Elementary Schools. Her professional experience is a tremendous asset in her position as the Division Leader of our Kiddie Kingdom boys.
Rachelle Tilbor - Division Leader
Rachelle is outside playing with our 3, 4 and 5 year old girls all day long. She loves working with our youngest campers and it shines through in everything she does. During the year, Rachelle is a Pre-School teacher. She is returning to ELDC for her 11th summer.
Shira Wasserman - Division Leader
Shira is known for her silliness and creativity all around camp. Shira has worked in a variety of roles over the past 10 years, and has been a huge help wherever she goes! She currently teaches a third grade inclusion class at Indian Fields Elementary School in South Brunswick. Shira is looking forward to her new home with the 1st and 2nd grade boys.
Hanna Lustig - Division Leader
Hanna has been a camper all her life! Her dream to become a teacher has now come true at Judd Elementary School in North Brunswick, where she teaches 4th grade. She enjoys teaching because she feels that she is able to relate to every student on their individual level. Now that she is certified, her first stop was to come back to camp so she can be with children all year round. Hanna will be working with the 1st and 2nd grade girls, and is returning for her 3rd summer..
Justin Hirsch - Divison Leader
Justin is returning to his 3rd and 4th grade boys for another summer! Justin has been a part of our leadership team for over 10 years. He currently teaches English and Special Education in Newark. His energy, creativity and empathy are reflected throughout his campers and counselors. Justin lives locally with his wife and two sons (a current and future ELDC camper).
Julie Ernst - Divison Leader
Julie came to Eagle's Landing through her two boys. Once they took a tour of camp, they were hooked! Julie works in Highland Park during the school year, and she spends her summer with our 3rd and 4th grade girls. Julie is thoughtful and "drama-free" with her campers. We love seeing her smiling face all summer long.
Todd Gural - Divison Leader
Todd is returning to camp for another fun-filled summer. Eagle's Landing is excited to have Todd back for his 7th year supervising the 5th and 6th grade boys. Todd teaches middle school in Metuchen during the school year. He is easy going and adaptable to all personalities. Joining him at camp this summer are his two daughters.
Robyn Silberstein - Divison Leader
Robyn teaches in Eatontown during the school year and is looking forward to another summer at ELDC! She loves to be outdoors with her 5th and 6th grade girls crafting, playing sports or swimming. Some of Robyn's best memories as a child were at camp, and she is excited to bring her son to ELDC this summer for his 5th summer!
Dan Schmeidler - Divison Leader
Dan has been with our camp family for 9 years. Dan is known for his mellow demeanor and likes being outside. Dan is returning once again to work with the Upper Camp boys of 7th and 8th grade. During the school year Dan teaches a 5th grade inclusion class in Summit. Dan's son and daughter are ELDC campers.
Sue Ancona - Divison Leader
Sue calls camp her Shangri-La. After teaching high school physical education in Irvington, she loves coming to camp each summer to spend time with her 7th and 8th grade girls. Sue is incredibly organized and very supportive - a great combination for middle school campers.
Christina Rishiy - Divison Leader
Christina is best described as a positive, upbeat leader. This summer, she will return to our eldest division, the Leaders in Training (LITs) and Counselors in Training (CITs). She currently teaches high school science in Irvington and was recently awarded Teacher of the Year!
